Mangamate Falls

This is one of the most accessible of our local waterfalls, situated as it is some 25 minutes by car on SH 38, heading from Murupara towards Minginui.

The road is sealed all the way, until the entrance of the DoC park upon which the falls are situated, but even then, the 2km gravel road is wide and smooth enough for all vehicle types.

The Mangamate Falls have a 27 metre drop from a small tributary into the Whirinaki River. The river is shallow with plenty of good, safe spots for swimming for the whole family. There are viewing platforms available as well for those who are physically disabled.

There are toilets, plenty of parking and a sheltered area which make it perfect for having a picnic or bbq. If you like to fish, there are plenty of areas along the banks of the river which are easily accessible for this.
